A Caramelised Red Onion Marmalade with the right credentials
There are a great many red onion marmalade concoctions around and we’ve been looking for one that really excites the tastebuds.
Hibiscus Lily lovingly hand make all their products and we think they have managed to create a Caramelised Red Onion Marmalade which is rich in texture as well as flavour.
The marmalade has just the right consistency, being sticky enough to stay on a cheese and cracker without dripping off.
We love the rounded flavour too. Sweet and tangy, yet not too cloying. Although this is an onion marmalade, the onion flavour is not overwhelming or acrid in nature – a truly good thing.
Hidden in the luscious dark are skilfully blended herbs and spices that cleverly complement and round out the overall flavour. Ginger and garlic give it an Indian edge, while tamarind and pomegranate molasses lend a deep fruitiness.
Bay leaf and thyme introduce savoury herbal notes and then there’s a little spike of chilli for an agreeable after-kick.
The Caramelised Red Onion Marmalade is superb with cooked meats and the perfect partner to cheeses. Hibiscus Lily even suggests adding it to gravy.
